DateCrack Plus 1.0


Overview:

     Datecrack Plus is a Windows 95 application that defeats
the expiration date on most trial versions of software.  
Applicable programs may be launched from a program list 
within the Datecrack Plus menu and/or from a shortcut on the
desktop.  Some programs launch multiple modules and take 
longer to load.  Previous versions of Datecrack were unnsuc-
cessful in manipulating such programs.  Datecrack Plus 
provides incremental delays to hold the desired date for the
length of time required to successfully launch the applica-
tion.  Each Datecracked program can be customized with it's
own unique delay factor.  Datecrack Plus also includes the
capability to test a target application to determine the 
proper delay period.  Datecrack Plus supports program launch
via shortcut through the use of command line editing from 
within the shortcut properties window.  This program is near 
idiot proof.  Please don't disappoint us.

Installation:

     DatCrkPl.exe is a self executing archive.  Double
click on DatCrkPl.exe to extract installation files to the
suggested temporary directory or one of your own choosing.  
Run setup from within the temporary directory.  Setup will
recommend a directory for installation.  The recommended 
installation directory may be changed by the user.  If the
desired directory is not present, it will be created by the
installation program.  

   ****  Copy the file Shortcut Template from the temporary 
directory to the destination directory.  ****

Operation:

1. Adding a program to DatecrackPlus
                        
   a. Click entry.

   b. Select the drive where the target program will be found

   c. Select the directory where the target program will be
found.
	
   d. Select the EXE file to be datecracked.  
 	
   e. Enter date (date entered must precede expiration date)

   f. Enter delay factor (value must be within 0-10).
      0=minimum delay

      1-9 (factors 5 seconds). 1=5 secs, 2=10 secs, 3=15
secs, etc

      10=indefinite.  Current date restoral must be effected
manually via the mouse.

    g. Select test.  Datecrack will change the system date 
and launch the target application.  All datecrack options 
will be disabled (greyed out) during the delay period (with
the exception of delay factor 10).  

       If the program launched successfully, close the 
program and select OK.  The target program has been 
datecracked.  

       If the program did not launch successfully, close the
program and increase the delay factor.  Repeat this step
until the appropriate delay factor is determined.  Once the 
target program launches successfully, click on OK. The target
program has been datecracked.


2.  Launching Datecracked programs from a menu

    a.  Launch Datecrack Plus

    b.  Select Display

    c.  Highlight the target program

    d.  Click on Execute
                      	
		
3. Removing the Datecrack modification

   a. Select the target program in the display, by left 
clicking it.

   b. Click on Delete.

      Note:  This action does not delete the target program,
only the datecrack option.
  

4. Display  
	
    a. Shows those programs that are currently datecracked.
	
	   
5. Setting up a Datecracked shortcut:

	a.  Open the Windows explorer to the DateCrack Plus 
directory	

	b.  Copy the shortcut template to the Start Menu,
Desktop, or folder of your choice.

	c.  Rename the copied shortcut template to reflect the
target program

	d.  Right click on the renamed shortcut template

        e.  Select properties
 
	f.  Select shortcut tab

	g.  Edit "Target:" information to reflect the
Datecrack Plus\Datecrack.exe path followed by the name of the
target exe file.

    Example: "C:\DateCrackPlus\Datecrack.exe" WebFerret.exe
           
    Notes:   1. The target exe file is case sensitive

             2. Do not remove the quotation marks 

        h. Edit "Start in:" information to reflect the
installed DateCrack Plus directory.

	   Example:   "C:\DateCrackPlus"

	i.  Click on the "Change Icon" button.  Select one
of the available icons or browse for a suitable icon.

        j.  Click on OK to accept the highlighted icon.

        k.  Click on OK to close the Properties window.
